Who am I?
I’m a writer. I write things. I also do a fair bit of thinking, too. In fact, I find writing comes out better when you’ve had a think first.
Why Host?
My best bits of recent writing have been at Host and this is why.
At Host, you hear many words - ‘ethical’ and ‘lovely’ are recent favourites - but you don’t hear tired buzzwords. I’ll give an example:
The decade’s most over-used phrases are ‘almost’ and ‘in terms of’. In any other agency you hear these little sods all the time, creeping into innocent sentences and stripping them of meaning. ‘Iconic’ is another one. Eurgh.
At Host, you won’t hear them so often, because the Hostages seem to think a bit before talking. And they have principles. I’m proud of Host’s TEADIRECT CAMPAIGN because it has principles and because every word in it is as fresh as a newly picked tea leaf.
When you next visit another agency, count the almosts. If you score more than three an hour, they aren’t thinking hard enough. As my English Teacher used to say, ‘if you don’t say what you really mean, you can’t really mean what you say’. And at Host, they really mean what they say.
As well as words, I am also interested in:
